coffee with chelsey dellinger

Hello friends and followers, welcome to that time of year. The days are getting shorter and time is precious; I work full-time as a retail manager in addition to doing this little thing people called being an “artist”. What’s most important to be at this point in the year is keeping myself rested, motivated, and moving forward… however slow that may be.

And one thing I do not sacrifice, rather I actually put more time into, is connecting IRL to the people in my life. I’ve spent lots of time talking over coffees and connecting with colleagues and new friends. One new friend I’m especially grateful for meeting is Chelsey Dellinger. She’s an up and coming ATL photographer who, like me, is just trying to figure out her place in this town. She and I chatted over coffee and I had the distinct pleasure of having my photo taken by her. What a treat!

sunday comfort

Does social media ever make you feel inadequate when you get dressed to go enjoy your day off? Being a “blogger”, I know this feeling all too well. Since I follow so many amazing creatives, I have a bad case of comparison envy and often have to snap myself out of it. It’s never a full picture of reality and it’s often the product of an hour of makeup application and another hour of taking photos just for that one shot.

Anyways all of that is to say, I wanted to show you an outfit that I ACTUALLY wore for an ACTUAL Sunday off in my real life. Our day’s plans consisted of breakfast and strolling around for Sunday In the Park (see previous blog entry) at Oakland Cemetery. More often than not, this how I actually dress for my days of ease and comfort. What you typically see in my outfit posts is how I dress for work and for blog photos. Full disclosure, I work at Anthropologie and so yes, it is by definition my job to dress well.

Everything I’m wearing in these photos are items I got for a steal, that I happened upon due to sheer luck. My hair is second day waves and I couldn’t be bothered to put in contacts or wear any makeup. Luckily there was a slight chill in the air and I was having a pretty good skin day. All I needed was a delicious latte from Octane and I knew my day was gonna be awesome.

wrapped in plaid

I swear to you that I’m not normally this vain. If you ask any of my close friends, they’ll tell you that I’m pretty picky when it comes to liking pictures of myself. But something magical happened this past weekend and my boyfriend snapped a ton of great portraits. I’ve never liked this many from a style shoot! Perhaps it’s the photographer, perhaps it’s the outfit. Perhaps it’s the fact that I have a lovely new Maelu head wrap on!

They make a lovely assortment of scarves, kimonos, and headbands – all block printed by Indian artisans.

I won’t lie to you, it took me a couple tries to get this head wrap looking anything but awkward. As I was adjusting it, I felt like I looked like something in-between a ninja and a gypsy fortune teller. But once I finally got the hang of it, I was feelin’ pretty darn cute…

a sunny winter

winter-sleek-6a

It’s kind of crazy how warm it is in Atlanta. Last winter’s memory of whiteout slushy highways lingers, but the sun is telling us there are still beautiful days to ahead. With the warmth of all this sunshine, I’ve been able to stretch my summer-fall transitional wardrobe even further. This jumpsuit is one of my newest obsessions, but it’s been challenging for me to figure out how to outfit it.

I ended up pulling this cream slouchy blazer from the back of my closet into the light and it works perfectly! It adds just a touch of elegance, while still highlighting the fun casualness of the splatter pattern.

soft knit spring

knit-spring-11a

Down here in Atlanta (and I’m assuming all over the nation), we’re stuck in some terrible limbo between winter and spring. The calendar says it’s obviously spring, but Mother Nature begs to differ. In the midst of it, the upside is that all the winter clothing is going on sale! I scored this awesome cozy sweater from the Target clearance rack for $7. How could I pass that up?

waiting to bloom

Like most of the country, we folks here in Georgia are totally done with winter. Every now and then we’ve been blessed with a warmer day (warmer meaning actually hitting 50 degrees) and you bet your butt we take advantage of it. The outfit seen here was worn on such a day and it felt unbelievably good to only have two light layers on!

There’s something I haven’t been telling you, but you may have guessed it by now.
